Line lasers, rotary lasers and laser distance meters

Laser measuring tools replace the tape, the spirit level and the chalk line on layout work, and the choice comes down to beam pattern, visibility and how the tool is powered. A cross line laser projects one horizontal and one vertical line for dry lining, tiling and socket runs. Three-dimensional versions throw full 360° circles on all three planes, so a room can be set out from a single position.

Rotary lasers cover long exterior runs and pair with a receiver where the beam is invisible in daylight. Green beams read far brighter to the eye than red, which matters outdoors and at distance, while red draws less current. Laser distance meters handle point-to-point measurement, area and volume, with indirect functions for spans that cannot be walked. Self-levelling within a few degrees saves setup time, and a lockable pendulum protects the mechanism in transit.

Power runs from dry cells to 12V and 18V cordless platforms already in the van. Compare with the digital measuring instruments range, or prebuilt sets with tripod and receiver.
