Thickness planers for workshop wood preparation

A thickness planer machines rough timber to a uniform thickness in a single pass, saving hours of hand planing and delivering consistent results across every board. Feed your workpiece through the machine and the rotating cutter head removes material evenly across the full width of the board.

Planing widths in this range reach up to 318 mm, comfortably accommodating standard lumber dimensions for furniture, cabinetry and construction projects. Motor power ranges from 1500 W to 2100 W, with higher wattage models handling hardwoods and deeper cuts more efficiently without slowing down. The Makita 2012NB is a dedicated thicknesser rated at 1650 W with a 304 mm capacity for focused dimensioning work. Maximum material removal per pass varies from 2 mm to 3 mm depending on the model and motor power. Available from Metabo, DeWalt, Makita and Ryobi to suit different budgets and workshop requirements.
