Insert trays that keep drawers and cases laid out

An insert tray divides a drawer, a case or a system case into compartments, so small items do not slide around on every move. That saves searching and, more to the point, you see at a glance what is missing before you leave.

Sizing is the whole story. Trays are built on a grid, so one large tray takes up exactly the space of several small ones and a layout can be shifted without leaving gaps. Measure the internal size of the drawer or the case first and work back from there to a combination that fills the area completely.

Watch the height as well. Trays around 70 mm keep bolts, sockets and bits in place, lower models fit under a lid that gives little clearance. Festool, Facom, Makita, Gedore, Sortimo, HiKOKI, Ryobi and Milwaukee each supply trays that fit their own case system, so choose within the brand whose cases you already use. For bulk storage on the shop floor a storage bin suits better, and sockets are kept more clearly on a socket rail.
