Single or multiple labyrinth seals are more effective than simple gap seals, but are more expensive
They are mainly used in grease lubrication
Their effectiveness can be increased by regularly applying a water-insoluble grease, e.g. a lithium calcium soap grease, through a channel into the labyrinth
The edges of the labyrinth are directed axially for undivided houses and radially for divided houses
The width of the axial gap in the labyrinth remains unchanged when the shaft moves axially during operation and can therefore be very small
When misalignment of the shaft occurs with respect to the house, labyrinths with a sloping profile are used
