Round slings for lifting and hoisting work

A round sling is an endless loop of polyester yarn inside a woven protective sleeve. That makes it supple, light and gentle on the load: the sling beds itself around the workpiece without sharp point loading, which often decides the choice on painted or finished surfaces.

The working load limit is printed on the label and depends on how the sling is rigged. A straight lift gives the full capacity, a choke hitch reduces it, and in a two-leg configuration the included angle counts as well. Work that reduction out before you pick a size, not afterwards. Length follows from the lifting height and the intended leg angle, not from what happens to be on the rack.

Colour coding by working load limit makes the right sling quick to recognise on the shop floor. Before every use, check the sleeve for cuts, abrasion and heat damage, and check that the label is still legible. A sling with a damaged sleeve goes out of service even if the core still looks sound, because the core can no longer be judged.

Pair the sling with matching rigging gear, such as a load hook with a safety latch or a plate clamp for steel plate.
