Saw blades for the jigsaw, chosen by material

The jigsaw blade decides almost everything about the result: the speed, how clean the cut edge is, and whether the blade takes the curve without breaking. The machine adds little to that. Anyone attacking every material with one universal blade cuts too slowly in wood and destroys the blade in metal.

So choose on material first. For wood, a blade with coarse teeth and generous chip clearance works fastest. For metal, a finer blade belongs in the machine, one that keeps several teeth in the workpiece at once so the teeth do not catch on the sheet and snap off. For fibre plaster and sandwich panel there are blades that stand up to the hard, abrasive layer without going blunt straight away.

Look at the length against the thickness of the workpiece as well, and at the width of the blade. A narrow blade turns more easily through a tight curve, a wide blade runs straighter and wanders less in thick material. For continuous work a pack with several blades is more practical than single pieces. Other sawing and cutting tools sit one level up, including the cutting disc.
