Fire resistant seals: collars, wrap, putty, coating and board
A fire resistant seal closes penetrations, joints and openings so that fire and smoke cannot spread through them from one compartment into the next. As soon as cables, pipes or ducts pass through a wall or a floor, the fire rating of that separation is lost at exactly that point. The range runs from intumescent collars and graphite-based wrap through to kneadable putty, fire-resistant coatings and rock wool board with a protective finish.
Which solution fits depends on the type of penetration and on the rating the separation has to reach. A single cable bundle is often served by kneadable putty, while a larger opening carrying several services calls for board or a combined build-up. Check the substrate, the diameter of the penetration and the movement the service still has to be allowed once it is sealed.
Sizes run from 30 mm to 400 mm, so a narrow cable penetration and a wide opening can both be finished within one system. Soudal supplies the common programme. For ordinary joints and connections with no fire rating, look at various seals.
