About Showa

Showa was founded in 1954 by Japanese ex-military Akeo Tanaka. During his time in the army, he witnessed how his fellow soldiers suffered hand injuries under harsh conditions. Many comrades lost their fingers due to extreme cold or work accidents, even while wearing gloves. This inspired Tanaka to develop new work gloves that were not only strong but also functional. The first Showa glove was the first work glove made from PVC. It was designed with safety, comfort, and functionality in mind. The success of the first Showa glove led to the development of many other successful gloves. Innovation and hand protection became the cornerstones of success and remained the foundation of Showa's philosophy. In Japanese, Showa means finding a balance between different elements, which lies at the heart of the approach in developing all Showa products.
