Seaming pliers for folding and closing sheet metal seams

Seaming pliers fold thin sheet metal, flatten a seam and close a fold without a machine coming into it. On zinc roofing, in ductwork and on repairs to existing gutters and cappings, this is the tool that finishes a joint to size on the spot.

The jaw decides what you can reach. Straight pliers work along a free edge. A jaw bent 45 degrees gets to a seam lying against an upstand. A version bent 90 degrees reaches around a corner where straight pliers jam. The flattening version presses the folded edge down into a closed seam.

Jaw widths here run from around 28 to 50 mm. A wide jaw folds a longer length in one pass and keeps the line straight, a narrow jaw steers more accurately in curves and small details. Handles with a PVC coating hold more securely on cold and wet work. ERDI and Gedore supply the range. Related riveting tools sit under rivet guns, and the full range under pliers.
