Scrapers for paint, adhesive, sealant and old coatings

Scrapers take paint, adhesive residue, sealant and old coating off a surface without reaching for a sander or a heat gun. The work happens at the cutting edge: a sharply ground blade lifts the layer in one pass, while a rounded edge slides over it and burnishes it in place instead. Change or grind the edge as soon as the scraper starts to drag rather than cut.

Working width drives the choice. Narrow models around 25 mm reach into rebates, glazing beads and mouldings. A width of 50 mm to 60 mm is the standard for doors, frames and skirting. For flat walls and floors take 150 mm to 250 mm, which covers the surface in fewer passes. Look at the blade itself as well: thin, flexible stock follows a slightly convex surface, while thicker stock stays flat and cuts more aggressively.

A two-component handle limits pressure on the palm during long sessions and keeps grip with wet gloves. Bahco, Gedore, Stanley, Facom and Martor each shape the handle and the edge differently, so compare how the tool sits in the hand. Buy individual widths, or take a complete set when the work varies a lot.
