Ratchet ring spanner sets in a case

A ratcheting ring spanner set combines the torque of a ring spanner with a ratchet mechanism in the head, so you do not lift and reset the spanner between strokes. The small swing arc is the real advantage: alongside a chassis, in an engine bay or between pipe runs you can move the spanner only a few degrees, and that is enough to keep turning.

Look at sizing first. Metric sets cover everyday work, versions with inch sizes are needed on machinery built in inches, and there are spanners that serve several sizes from one head so the case stays compact. Heads differ as well: a fixed head is the strongest and the slimmest, while a hinged or adjustable head reaches bolts that sit at an angle or recessed.

Check the reversing lever, the tooth count of the ratchet, since that sets the swing arc, and the case itself. A set left loose in the toolbox goes incomplete quickly.
