Electric planers with 82 mm cut width and rebating

A planer takes material off a face or an edge in controlled passes, which is what a door that binds, a twisted batten or a glue line that needs dressing actually requires. Cut width is the first specification: 82 mm covers most joinery and site work, and wider machines exist for beam and timber-frame work. Depth of cut per pass, set on a front-handle dial, decides whether the tool is sizing material or taking a final skim.

Motor power runs from around 600 W for light trimming up to 1050 W where hardwood and full-width passes are the daily job, with heavier machines above that. Check three details before choosing: rebating depth, whether the shoe carries a V-groove for chamfering, and how the blades are indexed, since disposable double-edged blades cost less in downtime than resharpening.

Chip ejection that switches left or right, plus a port for extraction, keeps the working line clear. Sits alongside the circular saw in the wider sawing and planing range.
