Facom HSS and cobalt taps, stud drivers and other threading tools

Facom threading tools are for tapping threads and for fitting or removing studs, in assembly, maintenance and repair work on machines and engines. For drilling the tapping hole and countersinking its edge, Facom step drills and conical cutters are in the neighbouring category, within the wider Facom cutting tools range.

Taps come in HSS for standard work and with cobalt for harder steel and heavier tapping. They are designated by diameter and pitch, such as 4 x 0.7 mm, 6 x 1 mm or 8 x 1.25 mm, and come in sets of two or three, so you cut the thread in stages. Pick the size to match the bolt and check the pitch, because a fine and a coarse thread of the same diameter will not fit together.

Stud drivers screw studs in or take them out. A model with a roller and fixed diameter grips one size firmly; a model with a knurled ring takes several diameters, with a 1/2" or 3/4" drive and a stated range in Nm. Stud extractors pull out broken bolts and studs: drill first with the matching conical drill, then turn in the extractor.
