Dust bags and filter bags matched to the machine

A dust bag decides how long a construction vacuum keeps pulling at full power. The fleece catches the collected material before it reaches the main filter, and that extends the life of the filter considerably. Machine type matters most when choosing: inlet collar, collar height and capacity differ per vacuum and are not interchangeable between brands.

Fleece filter bags are the usual choice for fine construction dust such as concrete, plaster and wood dust. They hold more dust than paper and stay intact when the material is slightly damp. Long-life reusable bags are an alternative: empty, knock out, refit. That works out cheaper on coarse rubble and for crews who empty the vacuum daily. Self-closing bags are pushed shut as they come out, so the dust stays in the bag, which weighs heavily with dust containing quartz.

Replace the bag well before it is full. A full bag lowers the airflow, so extraction at the machine falls away and the motor runs hotter. Anyone opening up the suction chain anyway should check the vacuum cleaner tube for cracks and the vacuum cleaner nozzle for wear.
