Bench grinders for sharpening tools in the workshop
A bench grinder sits firmly on your workbench and is the go-to machine for sharpening tools, deburring metal and dressing welds. Two rotating wheels, often in different grits, let you combine rough stock removal and fine finishing in a single setup. For the workshop you choose on power and wheel diameter: lighter models around 250 W to 400 W are enough for the occasional chisel or drill bit, while machines from 550 W to 750 W hold their torque under continuous use.
Larger wheels up to 205 mm give a wider grinding face and a flatter edge. Look for a stable base, a guarded spark deflector and an adjustable tool rest, because these decide how safely and accurately you work. Alongside the classic double grinding wheel you will also find combinations with a belt sanding unit for finishing larger surfaces.
Metabo, Makita, Bosch and Ryobi supply bench grinders for the hobby workshop as well as professional daily use, matched to the weight of the work.
