Cable cutters, also VDE-insulated to 1000V
A cable cutter cuts copper and aluminium cable cleanly through without crushing the cores, so the cross-section stays intact and the cable fits easily into a connection. The hollow-ground, often honed cutting edges enclose the cable and cut it round, unlike side cutters that flatten the cable. Electricians, installers and panel builders use them daily for flexible and solid conductors.
For live work, choose a VDE-insulated version tested to 1000V, recognisable by the two-colour insulated grip. Brands such as Knipex, Bahco, Facom, Wiha and Gedore offer models with multi-component grips for extra grip and comfort. Larger cables call for a cable cutter with a ratchet principle, which builds up the cutting force in stages so you get through thick cable with little hand force.
When choosing, look at the maximum cable diameter and at the length, here from roughly 160 to 280 mm. A lock protects the cutting edges during transport. This way you cut every cable to length quickly, safely and neatly.
