Rotary burrs for deburring, weld dressing and shaping metal

A rotary burr is a small cutting head on a shank, run in a die grinder or flexible shaft to remove metal where a file is too slow and a milling machine cannot reach. Typical work is deburring, opening out holes, dressing welds, blending radii and cleaning up castings and fabrications. Shape decides the cut: a cylinder squares up flats and edges, a ball hollows and blends, a pointed arch or tree shape works into corners, and a cone chamfers.

Tooth geometry matters just as much. A single cut clears long chips in soft, gummy material, while a crosscut breaks the chip and gives a faster, better controlled rate on steel and cast iron. Tungsten carbide holds its edge at high speed and in hard material; HSS is more forgiving on softer alloys and less likely to chip if the head is loaded off axis. Match the shank to the collet, most commonly 6 mm, and keep the speed inside the maximum for the head diameter.
