At the age of 13, Cor Brouwer started as an apprentice upholsterer. That was in 1953. Almost a quarter of a century later, he decided it was time to have his own company, and in 1987, he started Meubel en Rijtuigstoffeerderij C. J. Brouwer. The first assignments included the upholstering of antique carriages — a unique specialty steadily expanded over the years to include other specialties.
In 2021, orders come from all over the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium. An impressive range of upholstery fabrics, a combination of hi-tech and antique tools, and above all, unsurpassed craftsmanship have earned the small company a resounding reputation in the artisanal field of furniture upholstery.
No order too big or too small
A look at the stylish website of C. J. Brouwer tells more than our words can do here. The many photos give an impression of the extensive range of specialisms — the complete upholstery of superyachts to the refurbishment of medical furniture and moped saddles to the decoration of an ancient castle. Cor Brouwer elaborates this in his own words: ‘We make no distinction between the customers, whether it is someone who, for example, comes to buy a handful of decorative nails or a few meters of zipper or someone who has us carry out a large project here for private or business purposes.’

Using the most suitable materials for every assignment, Meubelstoffeerderij C. J. Brouwer has an extensive collection of classic and modern furniture fabrics. Not only do they represent all world brands in textiles, but also leather in more than 1000 different versions, for example.
Accessories such as buttons, zippers, and decorative nails complete the range. Whether a customer is looking for an authentic re-upholstery of antique furniture or a hip and colorful modern design, the sample collection is as extensive as it is inspiring.
