A hobby that got out of hand
While working as a shift supervisor in the process industry, Robby Buurma always liked to play around in his shed. He did beautiful things with wood, and as his fame grew throughout the village, people began to demand custom pieces of furniture. At the beginning of 2019, Robby Buurma took the step towards independent entrepreneurship. With the start of De Kleine Houtworm, he turned his hobby into a profession.
Every piece of furniture is a masterpiece
Robby Buurma’s working method is reminiscent of that of the carpenters in the time of the guilds. When everything was manual work, and furniture makers saw every assignment as a challenge to prove their mastery. Only the material is different; De Kleine Houtworm mainly works with scaffolding wood.
From sink to shed

Customers come to De Kleine Houtworm with the most diverse questions and ideas, and as long as it concerns wood, Robby Buurma can make it. The possibilities are endless — from a simple wall plate made of scaffolding wood to a large canopy of larch wood, from a sturdy railway sleeper table to a sleek washbasin with a granite top. Everything is done in close consultation with the customer so that expectations are not disappointed but exceeded.

Satisfaction

“I am proud every time I see a satisfied smile from my customers when I deliver another piece of furniture,” says Robby Buurma. “Often, after a while, I still receive photos, and they tell me how happy they are with it. That gives satisfaction.” Here speaks a man who has followed his passion.
